After several difficult years, this has been the most challenging year of my life. I had previously lost at least half of my money during the recession in efforts to repair my home.  My house had a crack in the foundation from an under-ground spring, which the previous owner didn’t tell me about. I would have lost even more money if I tried to sell it “as is.” To avoid an impending foreclosure, I had to sell the house for half its' worth. My son and I had to move into a small apartment.

A couple years later, looking at Halloween decorations with a friend, I stepped backward and tripped on a traffic cone, falling on the street and experiencing the worst pain I'd ever felt (much worse than childbirth.) Luckily, there were several police there, and I was rushed to the hospital. I was told that I had broken my hip.

This injury required me to spend two weeks in the hospital, a very expensive stay with many bills I have been unable to pay. The night I returned home from the hospital, after having been assured by my contractor that my bathroom (and towel bar) were finished, I slowly made my way to the bathroom with my walker. I reached out to touch the towel bar and discovered it wasn't attached to the wall. I fell to the floor with the towel bar in hand. This was just a few days post-surgery and the pain was unbearable. I laid on the cold bathroom floor for most of the night, since yelling was useless, then finally tried to slowly crawl to the phone in tremendous pain. Different ambulance, same ER and same broken hip.

Finally, after another hospital release, I had 24-hour attendants, which cost me $6,000, which ate into the money I had left. Approximately a year later, my doctor found a cancerous tumor in my breast. This was followed by more surgery, months of chemotherapy, then radiation and several thousand dollars (insurance didn't pay for alot of it).  Luckily, I am cancer-free today.

However, soon after this, I discovered that a horrible pain I'd had in my stomach was being caused by my gall bladder. It needed to be removed, which landed me in the hospital for another week long stay. My son took me home and 5 minutes after we arrived, the pain returned. Back to hospital to be told they didn't catch something and that I need 2 more surgeries.  During yet ANOTHER week in the hospital, the surgeon says I am cognitively impaired with memory loss, etc.  More tests, more bills.

After this nightmare, my money eventually ran out, and I was evicted from my apt. I've been sleeping on a friend's cot for the last year-and-a-half.  Everything I own is in storage.  I owe them $6,000, and I've been wearing the same clothes all this time.  My private practice as a psychologist (yes) has gone downhill.  Had a car accident when my brakes failed, and couldn't afford the repairs, so my car was auctioned off.  Rental cars have added to the money I owe.  Now I have to walk. THEN my front tooth got loose and fell out.  A tooth implant can cost about $4,000, and, looking into a mirror, I feel that I look horrible and have no self-esteem.  I needed cataract surgery- another $2,000. In addition to all of these medical hurdles, I've also just been diagnosed with diabetes.

I am now living in transitional housing and considered homeless. I've hit bottom and am beginning to lose hope. I need an affordable apartment and finances to care for my medical needs so that I can work my back towards the self sufficient life I once knew. I am beyond overwhelmed and extrememly depressed. Any contributions will be greatly appreciated and help to give me the hope I need to survive. Thank you for listening.

I don't know you, but hope that you are able to recover from this tragic turn of events. I gave what I can. I pray that you will be able to continue to help women in verbally and emotionally abusive relationships.
